Challenge Day 3 & 4

Yesterday consisted of a photo from my bedside. There’s not much to look at from the bedside except some pictures! The other is of a smile…so, there’s me..with my Canon…which always makes me smile. 🙂

Challenge Day 2 & 3

I’m a little behind on the challenge due to the bad storms in our area yesterday! Luckily, we had it pretty mild and no damage to our home. Unfortunately, a lot of other areas in Kentucky are pretty devastated. Please keep those families in your thoughts and prayers.

Back on track….Challenge day 2 consisted of a picture of fruit. I had some kiwi for breakfast, so there you go! I’m a bit disappointed in the picture quality, though. The iPhone 4G is great, but it’s no Canon Rebel. The other picture is of my neighborhood, well part of it. Nice view of the water tower, huh? I had a little fun with some filters on this picture. I recently bought Snapseed and am pretty pleased with its capabilities. Still learning its features, though!

Now, time to go enjoy the day! 🙂

Challenge Day 1

So here we go with the first day of the March Challenge. Today’s category? Up.

I chose to interpret “up” literally, so I looked up. I took a picture of one of my trees outside and part of my rooftop. I was a little disappointed to not have a single cloud in the sky today. Oh well!

Next up tomorrow… fruit! Very exciting, I know. 🙂

Ellie – Elbo – Eltrain – Bo – Jangles – Stinky Stinkerson

Those are just a few of the many nicknames my little friend has inherited. It’s amazing she’s even able to answer to her given name – Ellie. Though she tries my patience at times, she’s my unconditional friend. There’s nothing quite like a pet. My husband cannot fully understand my love for dogs, or all animals, for that matter. The fact that she’s not allowed on my couch (his rule, not mine) baffles me and my fellow dog lover friends. This little stinker has made the last five years better and has kept it interesting for me. I’d like to believe in the year and a half I’ve been married that my husband has grown accustomed to her…dare I day, even love her. Sometimes I’ll even hear him talking to her and calling her buddy when he thinks I’m not around. 🙂

Ellie is the third pet I’ve been around, but she’s the first that I’ve had all to myself. Since I’ve graced my parents’ presence back in ’83, we’ve had two other dogs. Each died around the age of 13…both were very sad times. I strongly dislike how short pets’ lives are too. It’s just not long enough. I came across the following article (see below) on Pinterest (where else?) and I found it very sweet and comforting. Also, enjoy the little collection of Ellie photos. 🙂 You’re welcome.

Downtown BGKY

The following pictures are from the downtown area of Bowling Green, KY. These are definitely some of my favorites! I rarely am in this area, but found myself wandering around with my Canon snapping all sorts of pictures. There’s not a whole lot to the downtown area, but it does have some character.

On a side note, I don’t think WordPress is recognizing that this year is a leap year because my blog post says March 1st. SO, my dates will be off on the March Challenge posts. 🙂

March Challenge

I have become a Pinterest junkie and proud of it. If you’re not aware of Pinterest, get with it! 🙂 It’s an eclectic pin board that offers a lot of photography inspiration, among other things. I adore food so I have found a bazillion, tasty recipes. If you love DIY projects, go on Pinterest! Anyway, I’m getting off track… On one of the photography boards, I saw an idea about a March challenge. You take a photo every day in March and post it (on a blog, Instagram, Facebook, where ever!). Well, I believe I’m up for the challenge! We’ll see how it goes. 🙂 I hope to hang on longer than I did when I originally started blogging. If you’d like to join in on the creativeness, see the picture below…

Life’s a Beach

Back in October, my husband and I attended a wedding in St. Petersburg, FL. This was my first trip, not only to Florida, but to see a beach. All I can say is, wow! I’m pretty sure I’d be content with being a beach bum for the remainder of my years. 🙂 The beach I went to was in Clearwater, just a short trip down the road. The whole area had a lot of character and so much to offer. Being over protective, I didn’t lug my Canon Rebel to the beach, so my iPhone 4G was my camera of choice.

Life Gets in the Way

Four initial posts and I already fell off the blogger bandwagon! Shame on me. 🙂 What can I say, life really does get in the way! Not just with blogging but with taking pictures, too. Lots has happened since my last post – went on my first trip to Florida (photos soon), bought and fixed up our first home, and….well, I guess that’s it. I’ll be going to Savannah, GA in April, so I’m hoping to get some wonderful pictures from that location!

For the time being, I won my first photo contest! A bank was choosing local pictures to have as an option for debit cards. Mine, as well as a few others, we’re chosen! It was of the river walk bridge in Bowling Green, KY. See the picture below.

“New York…. Is A State of Mind”

Typically, when someone thinks of “New York” they think of the city.  I think we forget that there’s more to the state than NYC.  I was definitely guilty of this!  Don’t get me wrong, I love NYC, as you’ll see from the pictures below.  Someday, though, I hope to venture to upstate New York.  That’s where my husband grew up – in the Adirondacks.  I’ve heard countless stories about the beauty of Lake George, the Adirondack Mountains, and of course the great food.  🙂

The pictures below are from several years back when I went to New York City for a School Psychology conference.  My grad school friends and I were guilty of seeing what NYC had to offer as opposed to spending all our time at the conference!  I mean, c’mon, it’s not like I went on trips all the time… I needed to take advantage of the situation.

New York City was quite the experience.  Things learned:  (1) I will never ride in the front seat of a cab again! (2) People actually use their bumpers while driving (and parking) (3) Best pizza I’ve EVER eaten (4) New Yorkers are aggressive walkers (5) Stick together when crossing a street… or you will be a new hood ornament (6) Subways are scary (7) People walk EVERYWHERE – it’s great (8) Lastly, it’s the most lively, incredible city I’ve ever been to.  The end.

Below you will find Central Park – it was incredible.

The Road Less Traveled

These first two pictures truly are the road less traveled…. for me, at least.  In the 15 years I have lived here, I have never been to Beech Bend Park, or anywhere near that area, for that matter.  Since I had been glued to my camera, I found myself driving all over the place this summer.  I just desperately had the itch to take pictures.  I found myself out near a lot of farmland, which is surprisingly beautiful!  Kentucky has beautiful landscape if you just slow down and take the time to admire it.  That’s what I did… that’s what I will continue to do.

I love everything about these two pictures – they’re edited a little differently.  The colors, the lines… everything.  You’ll notice in a lot of my pictures, I love to capture lines and shoot from different angles.  Lines have an amazing way of grabbing the viewer’s eye and drawing you in.

Okay, so the next few pictures are not actual “roads,” but they are railroads.  That should count for something, right?  🙂  I believe photographing railroads and stairways are my favorite.  You’ll see some stairs in a future post – try to contain your excitement!
